Training and Consultation
Teaching and parenting children with special needs, especially children with Autism
Spectrum Disorders, can be very challenging. Providing staff and families with information
on educational best practices can create a basis for common understanding and help keep
communication open and supportive. Positive strategies, which can be implemented at home,
in school or in the community, encourage generalization across settings and are emphasized
in training. Workshops and in-service training can be customized to provide individual or
program consultation, as well as on-going support. In addition to consultation on individual
students, group training is offered on a variety of topics, including the following:
- Sexuality: Supporting Individuals with Autism and Special Needs
- Embedding the IEP in the School Day
- Introduction to Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders PDD
- Introduction to Asperger Syndrome and Effective Teaching Strategies
- Positive Behavior Support: From Analysis to Intervention
- ABAsics: Introduction to Behavioral Teaching Strategies
- PlaySteps: Building Play Skills with Visual Supports
- Planning for Effective Inclusion
- Building Independence at School and Home using Schedules and Visual Supports
- Natural Environment Teaching
